Volkswagen used computer code to cheat emission tests, says scientists

Scientists says that Volkswagen used computer code to cheat emission tests and when the emission-curbing system was not running, cars emitted up to 40 times a number of nitrogen oxides allowed under the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Scientists have uncovered the mechanism inside cars that allowed German automaker Volkswagen to circumvent the US and European emission tests using computer codes.
